You want something… go get it. Period!

I am often amazed how many people limit themselves. I often tell complete strangers that they can do it, to follow their dreams and accomplish their goals. To never quit and for them to keep pushing forward. They probably look at me and think that I’m a little crazy. No argument there, I probably am just a little. 🙂 But, that doesn’t bother me, I’m comfortable with who I am. What really bothers me is watching my close family and friends do the same thing day in and day out.

They are miserable and unhappy and when I speak to them about what would make them happy and what are their goals and dreams, their eyes seem to light up as if I had lit a candle within them. They talk about it for a while and then as quickly as the light was lit, it appears to go dark. I often ask them why they’re not following their dreams. What I get in reply is usually a bunch of reasons or excuses on why it just won’t work.  I tell them to not limit themselves and encourage and motivate them with words of inspiration and stories of others who have made it. They pause and think and then I get the common, well maybe I’ll do this, or maybe I’ll do that and I wish them luck and hope and sometimes pray that the next time I see them, they will have some positive news about how our conversation inspired them to follow their dreams and set goals.

Many times I feel as if I want them to succeed more than they want to. More often than not, when I see them again, it’s the same story, still unhappy, still don’t like their job or their money situation and in some cases, their life. But unfortunately, they’re not motivated enough to do anything about it. I’ll talk to some of them a few more times, I get the usual nods again, but sometimes they appear to be annoyed by my motivation and my persistence. I realize then that that maybe I should let sleeping dogs lay, but I’m tenacious, my wife says stubborn, so maybe I bring it up some more. I might do this more than I should and maybe it’s not welcome but it’s really because I love them and want to see them succeed even though it might not come across that way.

At some parties I even notice that they are kind of trying to avoid me because they know I will ask them how they’re doing and they don’t want to talk about it. I really don’t understand they’re mindset. It is all so foreign to me. I grew up poor, I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back now, we were poor and what little we had my Mother had to work two jobs just to keep us afloat. We didn’t have a lot of toys, in fact we didn’t have much at all. After watching my Mother work so hard and our family just get by, I realized that I wanted more and realized that I was going to have to work hard to get it.

Don’t ever let somebody tell you that you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.
– The Pursuit of Happyness

Unlike my close family and friends today who have so much more than I did growing up, and a more positive influence, all I heard from many, many people, was how I couldn’t do this or couldn’t do that. And that my goals and dreams were ridiculous and that I would never achieve them and that I should stop trying and just give up. You see I came from a family of first generation European immigrants and their idea was to work hard in a factory or some other labor intensive job and fall in line with everyone else. But I realized early on that I did not want to use my body and that I wanted to educate myself and use my mind. Maybe it was my stubbornness that didn’t allow me to quit or maybe it was the fact that I wanted to prove all the naysayers that they were wrong about me and my hopes and dreams.

First, when I was young I said I wanted to go to college and get educated, but not having any money, that was going to be difficult. I was also told that I wasn’t college material and that I should just get a job in a factory. I noticed that the military had the GI Bill and I could get money for school if I signed up so I decided to join the military. I was then told that the military was too tough and that I would never make it there. Next after talking to some of my fellow soldiers about getting out of the military and going to college to be an Electrical Engineer, I was told that it was way too much math and that I would never make it since this individual had tried and had dropped out. While in college I applied for Worcester Polytechnic Institute and was told that it was one of the best engineering school in the world and that it would be nearly impossible to get in, especially since my math skills were a little weak and I had been out of school for too long because I was serving in the military. While in college I spoke of following my dreams and going to work at Microsoft and having a beautiful home and a BMW and a wonderful family and maybe running my own business someday. All of which, I am blessed to say, have come true. Now, I’m not saying it was an easy road, God only knows it was not, but what I am saying is that if I can do it, it’s possible; if you can believe it, you can achieve it!

Now that I think about it, maybe what I should be telling my family and friends is that they will never achieve their dreams. Maybe I should tell them that it’s NOT possible and that they should just quit. Nah, I just can’t bring myself to do that. It brings back to many painful memories and that’s just NOT my style. So the next time I see them, I’ll ask them, how are those dreams and goals of your coming along and try to motivate them and tell them some more stories. I hope and pray that they might read this and maybe, just maybe, this will motivate them to get out there and follow their hearts, set some goals and accomplish all their dreams.

The Ant Philosophy

Image

For those of you that have never seen this, it’s one of my favorites:
The Ant Philosophy, by Jim Rohn.

  1. ANTS NEVER QUIT!– If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they’ll look for another way. They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under and they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way.

LESSON: Never quit looking for a way to get where you’re supposed to go!
  2. ANTS THINK WINTER ALL SUMMER!– You can’t be so naïve as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering their winter food in the middle of summer. You’ve got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun.

LESSON: It is important to plan and be realistic. Think ahead.

  3. ANTS THINK SUMMER ALL WINTER!– During the winter, ants remind themselves, “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.” At the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day.

LESSON: Stay positive at all times.

  4. ANTS DO ALL THAT YOU POSSIBLY CAN!– How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that they possibly can.

LESSON: Do all you can….and more!
So, never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can!
What a valuable lesson that we can learn from our friends the ants.

Don’t be afraid to fail

One day

Don’t be afraid to fail. What would you do if you knew you could not fail? Fortune favors the BOLD! Push yourself, you never know how far you can go. Give it everything you got and then a little more. If it doesn’t work out, that’s ok. It is by failing that we learns life’s greatest leassons. Our book that we are writing about our life has many chapters. When you fail, turn the page, take a deep breath, learn from your failures and start a new chapter.
Have a great day! 😀

Keep your head up

Feeling like you don’t have a chance in life? Feeling like you were born with less? Feeling like you’re always battling uphill? Feeling like things never go your way? Well, welcome to the club… Most of us have been there and some of us know no other way in life. Very few people are born with a silver spoon and even fewer are born with everything. So, if you’re still looking for that perfect opportunity? Guess what? It may never come and you need to be OK with that. Luck, is something that you make for yourself. In fact if you look at the definition of Luck, it says: a force that brings good fortune. Why not be that force? I can think of no stronger one that you have complete control over.

“Those who approach their jobs and careers with enthusiasm always find plenty of opportunities, while those who complain about no one ever giving them a chance are merely observers of life. When you are determined that you will not allow others to determine your future for you, when you refuse to allow temporary setbacks to defeat you, you are destined for great success. The opportunities will always be there for you.” ~Napolean Hill

Stay positive and keep your head up and your heart strong! Don’t ever admit that the world has not given you an opportunity. You can make it happen. I’m pulling for you! Have a great day! 😀

Follow your Dreams!

Follow your dreamsNever apologize for telling people what’s on your mind. Honesty makes people feel uncomfortable and that’s good because comfortable people rarely take action. Write down your dreams and put a plan together to accomplish them. Remember, if you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you have to do is wake up and get going! If you get knocked down, just dust yourself off and get back up! If someone or something is trying to bring you down, remember, life is 10% of what happens to us, and 90% of how we respond to it! You are in charge of your attitude!
Stay the COURSE, stay POSITIVE and FOLLOW your DREAMS!

Believe in You!

Image

There are some people out there who may not express happiness for your successes. They may not say how proud they are of you or won’t bring themselves to show joy for your accomplishments. Don’t seek their approval or validation if they are not willing to give to you freely. Search for blessings inside yourself and be confident that you have done greatness. You dont need anyone’s praise to make you feel valuable. Believe in yourself that you are worthy and that no one’s opinion or lack of approval makes you or breaks you. What others think about you in not as important as what you think of yourself. Believe in You! From Lessons Learned in Life

People come into your life for a reason

People come into your life for a reason; the negative people usually are there to teach you what you don’t want to become, treat you how you don’t want to be treated, and to show you what you don’t deserve. Embrace them, let them teach you, and then let them go. Be a positive influence on others; you’ll attrack more positive people to you. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to appreciate the positive people in your life!

Embrace Change

Change is inevitable

Change is inevitable. The question is not IF it will happen but WHEN. And, that when things do change, will you get better or stay the same? For things to get better in your life, YOU have got to get better! YOU have to change. You need to be in state of constant improvement. Strive to be better today then yesterday, but not as good as you will be tomorrow. If things are bad, don’t worry, change is right around the corner.

No matter how difficult the situation is, it won’t last forever. What follows the night is the day. What follows the winter is the spring. —Tony Robbins

Enjoy the journey, learn from your mistakes and make sure you’re making plenty of them because if you’re not, then you’re living life to safely. Get out of your comfort zone and do something different today. Dream BIG! Take chances, take risks and most of all, follow your dreams!

You’re a Hero

HeroDo you think that you’re a Hero?

Probably not, but if you really stop and give it some thought, you’re probably a lot closer to a real hero than you know.

I’m not talking about your child’s hero, that goes without saying.

Real heroes are those who have the courage to love, laugh, and live full tilt, despite the hand they’re dealt.―Kute Blackson

Maybe, you were lucky enough to have two loving parents that not only nurtured you but encouraged you and were there for you and supported you throughout your life and if you did, I am truly happy for you and you are very lucky, because most of the world doesn’t/didn’t.

Most people have a multitude of areas that they’ve had to overcome. Whether it be abuse, divorce, drugs, alcohol, [fill in the blank here with your demons], most of us have had to overcome many areas. We ALL have them; rich or poor, athlete or geek, popular or not. And despite the shortcomings, you’ve turned out OK. I think that you should be extremely proud of yourself and should remind yourself that you’ve overcome much to get to where you are today.

If you’re like me, you probably carry your own climate. Your own “pocket full of sunshine”. If it turns out to be a dark and dreary day, you reach in and take it out and smile! It doesn’t matter because nothing is going to stop you.

You love life’s challenges and you love it when people “try” to limit your ability. They tell you that, “you’ll never be able to do that” or “you can’t do that”. Who are these people? Why do they feel so compelled to limit our abilities or to tell us what we can or can’t do? Never let anyone limit you and always remember that, “what the mind can believe, the body can achieve.” Follow your heart and your dreams and keep reaching for the stars.

I tip my hat off to you. You’ve chosen to smile and stay positive regardless of what the world throws at you. In my opinion, you’re a survivor!

YOU’RE A HERO!
